#BELikeAGirl is built on the foundation of the 7 pillars of the R.E.S.P.E.C.T model. We eagerly invite both Women and Girls of African descent to participate in the growth of this non profit programming.
For Women of Color in STEM related fields, please consider where you would be most influential…
R – Relationships
Building powerful, long-lasting and healthy relationships that will play contributing roles in combatting stereotypes as participants develop and grow.
E – Empowered Visions through
S – Service Learning
Assisting participants to identify possible career and life paths in STEM fields that are free of glass ceilings and glass walls through service learning.
P – Peace and Prosperity
Women and Girls of African descent have an increased likeliness of being regarded to be of low socio-economic status. In addition, intersections of gender, sex, class and race also lead to decreased opportunities to conduct and maintain self care resulting in increased chances of experiencing disparities in health care. These principles, peace and prosperity, will allow participants to adopt healthy self-care and coping practices, while allowing them to utilize critical thinking skills to combat adversities on income and generational wealth.
E – Educational Focus
Through camps and webinars, participants receive the educational support needed to reach their goals of obtaining careers in STEM fields.
C – Culture
Through Youth Participatory Action Research, participants will conduct research that allows for the critical exploration of communal and societal stigmas and stereotypes.
T – Travel
Many girls of African descent are not afforded the opportunity to travel any further than their immediate communities, state of residence or the country in which they dwell. Through travel, participants will have the opportunity to expand their horizons and knowledge of other cultures while becoming active global citizens.
